Fasting serves as a gateway to…
FREEDOM, OPEN DOORS,
VICTORIES, TRIUMPH, SUCCESS, ADVANCEMENT,
ACCELERATION
In other words, though I may see all of this potential in me, though I know and understand that I am destined for greatness, though I can feel that God really wants to use me greatly for his glory, if I don’t put myself under subjection to living a lifestyle of fasting some of those things that I know is there will not be able to be obtained. I know it sounds a bit harsh because the way this is reading makes it seems as (if you don’t apply) this to your life you will not be able to obtain anything. Let me bring balance, I believe you can have all the things that I mentioned above however there will be a greater amount of resistance and opposition for you to get there without a disciplined lifestyle of fasting and prayer. As I mentioned in another chapter of the book, fasting always accelerates a process. You will now be able to tap into certain areas at a quicker pace due to obedience through fasting. I hope that makes sense and brings some clarity.
You may wonder, what about all the celebrities and the rich folk in the world and how it seems that they are living their dreams, and walking out their calling? For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:36)
Read Psalm thirty-seven, and allow it to minister to your heart.
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end there of are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12).
I am speaking of doing this “The Godly Way”!
Let us take a further look at this (kind) come forth but by fasting and prayer.
Mark’s Account
15 the disciples couldn’t cast the demon out.
16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him
privately, Why could not we cast him out?
29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
30 And they departed thence, and passed
through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it. (Mark 9:15-30)
Matthew’s Account
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:15-21).
What this demonstrated to me is that Jesus lived a life of not only prayer but also fasting. He was able to cast the demon out of this child but the disciples were not.
This also brings me to another point. Deliverance ministry is not for everyone. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; (Scripture reference)
Matthew 16:17 clearly show us the different signs that shall follow believers, but many times we are not living according to the word of God where we are keeping ourselves clean and pure before the Lord. We are not studying and reading the word as well as fasting and praying, and we are not in any kind of position to cast a demon out of anybody.
Think about this, if the disciples who closely followed Christ could not cast the spirit out of this child, how much more should we examine our personal walk with the Lord? Are we praying? Are we fasting? Are we spending time with God allowing the anointing to saturate our life? Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. It also takes faith to cancel out doubt and unbelief, and Jesus made a statement when he said…
Oh faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him unto me.” (Reference?)
Was it their faith or the lack thereof? This is one of the reasons I sincerely believe we must be ready at all times. There is a sinful world out there, and God has commissioned us to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ. In order for us to be as effective as our Savior was as he walked the earth, we have to come up higher. Not only was He given authority and power but He was also given revelation as to the kind of spirit with which He was contending.
You may be in a predicament where you don’t have time to go on a twenty-one day fast. You may not have time to go on a three day fast, but if your lifestyle is one filled with fasting and prayer, that won’t matter. There will be times where you will not be able to say, “Wait a minute; stand right there, and I will be back. I’ve got to go on a fast and seek God about this.” Someone will need and depend on you to be READY for war! Just as it was with Jesus on that day when this little child was delivered, He was ready!
Think about this; I mean really think about this! If Jesus wasn’t there on that day a child would not have been delivered, and neither would a precious father who had been seeking healing for his child. Can you imagine the torment that was taking place in the home of that child? Although it is mentioned that his father came seeking healing, can you also wonder if this child’s mother was still alive? More than likely, the mother and father were still together. I am sure this affected the entire household to have a child with problems like this. Yes, the problems were caused by an evil spirit, but these were SERIOUS issues to deal with. I am sure his parents were going through a lot dealing with mental torment themselves. What if there were other siblings in the home? If so, were they frightened to allow this child to be around the other children? Were they worried that the child would hurt the other siblings? Even if there were no other siblings, a normal childhood was out of the question. More than likely the neighbors didn’t want him interacting with their children either.
Many times when we read the word of God we have to realize that ALL of the details are not mentioned. The stories were real, and these were authentic people to whom Jesus was bringing hope. Real lives were being affected, and, had it not been for our precious Savior this child would not have received his miracle on that day - not only the child, but the entire household and even the community. It’s so important for us to be on post! We must be ready at all times to be about our Father’s business!
Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for oft times he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. Matthew 17: 22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: (Mark 9:15)
Fasting Releases Faith!
As you will find in the scripture, the disciples asked this question… Why could not we cast him out? Jesus responded and said... This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting and in Matthew Jesus
responded and said “Because of your unbelief 28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, why could not we cast him out? If they asked, it meant that they wanted to cast the demon out of the little child. It also shows us that they asked him privately as I am sure it was rather embarrassing to not be able to complete the task at hand and to remind you, it was public. People were standing around to witness a miracle only not to see one…until Jesus came by! Glory to God! As you will also see below, we have to be in position to be able to perform the same works that Jesus performed while on earth. We don’t want to be embarrassed or unsuccessful as these men were.
Read below:
11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the LORD Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
15And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. (Scripture reference)
Again, this was the example that Christ showed us on this day. He was READY for war, and he was READY to wage war against the enemy without a shadow of a doubt. What a beautiful place to be in!

It took FAITH on that day!
Example: The Women with the issue of Blood would not have been made whole had she NOT pressed her way. Now it doesn’t mention that she fasted to receive her breakthrough, but it is very interesting to see that her faith was released in order for her to receive her miracle.
It took powerful faith, unmovable faith, and focused faith on that day.
Under the Levitical law, it was out of order for a woman who had an issue with blood, such as this woman had, to even be seen out in public. On that day her FAITH made her whole!
The was an excerpt from the "Fasting For Breakthrough".
To Order the BOOK.
God Bless,
